About Us

The Illinois Celtics Basketball program helps our student athletes achieve what they, along with their parents, ultimately want: success. Success to the Illinois Celtics is not just wins and losses, but also improving basketball skills, gaining exposure to colleges and universities, and teaching life skills that will go on well after their days of basketball are done.

Several years ago, Illinois Celtics founder Anthony Muhammad created a program that was not just a “roll out the balls” organization. Rather, he developed an organization that had structure, that had a system, and that every player on the team displayed discipline. Program Director Ernest Edwards ensures that, even after Coach Muhammad’s death in 2012, the Celtics still adhere to original program goals, as shown in our mission statement:

“The Illinois Celtics Basketball program is dedicated to providing opportunities for student athletes to engage in positive and productive basketball activities throughout the year. The overall objective is to enhance and develop the full potential of each student athlete in our program.”

Our administrator, coaching staff and parent volunteers are dedicated to this mission statement and work tirelessly with our student athletes to improve their skill set, assist with the college selection/recruitment process, and ultimately help shape these young men as self-sufficient, responsible young adults.

2013 was again another successful year for the Celtics organization that extended well beyond the Spring/Summer season. A number of our student athletes received 1st or 2nd academic honors for their achievements in the classroom. Our 15U (2016) and 16U (2015) experienced success on the court as well. While playing in high profile, talent deep events, the Celtics teams appeared in Championship or Final Four games in nearly every tournament we appeared in during the 2013 Spring/Summer campaign. This includes:

15U 2nd Place – Illinois AAU District Championship
15U Platinum Final Four -Hall of Fame Championship (Chicago)
16U Platinum 2nd – Hall of Fame Championship (Chicago)
15U Gold Final Four – Gym Rats Derby Classic (Louisville)
15U Platinum Final Four – NY2LA Invitational (Milwaukee)
15U 2nd Place (16U division) – Respect Mom Shootout
16U Final Four – Cardinal Shootout/North Central College
15U and 16U Platinum Final Four – Chicago Summer Challenge
15U Platinum Final Four – Baylor/TMT Summer Jam
16U Gold Final Four – Baylor/TMT Summer Jam
16U Silver Champions – GRBA National (Ft. Wayne, IN)

In addition to our outstanding performance during the Spring/Summer season. A number of Illinois Celtics players participated in numerous camps and showcases throughout the summer and fall. Including:

University of Illinois Advanced Skills Camp
Hoop Mountain Fall Showcase (Chicago)
Pangos All Midwest Frosh/Soph Showcase
NY2LA Breakfast of Champions
NY2LA Futures Camp
Five Star Basketball Camp (East Stroudsburg, PA)
Academic Elite Showcase
Academic All-American Showcase
Purdue Elite Camp

In order to prepare our players for their upcoming school seasons, The Illinois Celtics chose to close out our 2013 activities with participation in 2 very competitive fall leagues.

The D-Rose Fall League
The Full Package Fall League

Illinois Celtics teams performed well in both leagues. The organization entered two teams into the Full Package league, one team comprised of 15U (2016) players, the other made up of 16U (2015) players. Both teams competed at the varsity level. The 16U team went coast to coast undefeated in the league winning the fall championship. The 15U team played well, only suffering 4 losses playing at the varsity level. A number of Illinois Celtics Players were recognized (weekly) throughout the fall for their outstanding play.

The Illinois Celtics team performed well in the D-Rose league, losing close games to a number of high profiled Illinois High School teams including nationally ranked Curie High School and Illinois Regional champion Homewood-Flossmoor.

As you can see, 2013 was a very successful year and only adds to the accomplishments of the Illinois Celtics program in our very short history. The Celtics have now appeared in 28 Final Four appearances with seven championships along with seven 2nd place finishes in our short 4 year history.

We are excited to see what opportunities 2014 brings our way!!
